Sorry we haven't been updating this blog as regularly as we would want. But just so you know, it's not because there's nothing to write about.
Here's a quick rundown of the BIG events and activities that we have in store over the next few months.
May 18 (Friday) - CANVAS will proudly launch its new artspace, CANVAS Gallery & Garden with SanLahi, a solo show of oil on wood artworks by Jim Orencio. (Other shows at this ArtSpace in the pipeline this year: Anthony Palomo, Farley del Rosario, J Pacena/Marika Constantino and a group show on Tandang Sora.)
May 26 (Saturday) - Rizalpabeto, an exhibition of letras y figuras artworks by Elmer Borlongan, as inspired by the poetry of Vim Nadera. Handsketched using an iPad, each letter will be collectible as a limited edition series of giclee prints (all sold out, sorry). A new, full color book version featuring all artworks and poems will also be launched on Rizal's birthday, June 19 (Tuesday) at CANVAS Gallery and Garden.
June 13 (Wednesday) - Now on its fourth year, CANVAS' Looking for Juan Outdoor Banner Project 2012 opens at the Vargas Museum in UP Diliman. Dozens of artists, ranging from fine arts students to emerging artists to mid-career favorites all the way to National Artists will showcase works around the theme "Kalayaan (Freedom". Tarpaulin banner versions of the paintings will also line UP's famed acacia-lined Academic Oval.
July 3 (Tuesday) - One of our very biggest shows ever, tentatively titled Clear and Present Danger: 1081, opens at the Main Gallery of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Designed to pass on the memory of the Marcos years on this, the 40th year since the declaration of Martial Law, the show will feature iconic as well as new works by some of the most important artists of this pivotal period in our nation's history. Tarpaulin versions of the artworks will also be produced and carried around Metro Manila to create virtual walking public art exhibitions designed to encourage discussion, conversation and real remembrance.
